Ponies and More!

After quite a wait the cattle and ponies promised by NE have finally arrived and are now grazing and foraging their way across HLS Lamorna. For a short period of time the land was habitated by dairy cattle, but now they have been replaced by a mixture of rare breed cattle and ponies.

The cattle types include Belgian Blues, Devon Ruby Reds, and both of these breeds, are quite obviously very young. So an older Fresian has been put in place, that seems to have been allocated a parental role! On top of this there are six Exmoor Ponies, again they seem young but extremely approachable and completely un-phased by humans.

It has to be said that the ponies and cattle, currently, don’t seem to be intermingling, but that may change over time. Also, the cattle unlike the ponies seem to move away from passing people, but possibly this could be put down to their having to adapt to new surroundings.

All that’s left now, is to monitor the land, see how the project progresses over time in terms of bio diversification and finally a quick request. Tempting as it might seem, please do not feed the ponies as that will discourage them from doing their job – grazing! Otherwise enjoy the new additions to the valley.
